The area around the AMANITA Guesthouse is ideal for trekking amid the outstanding natural environment no matter what the season.
We often organise themed trekking weekends. Of the treks we organise, we have chosen to present the following ones:
Tsangarada to Damouchari: The classic route
Trekkers start off from the Guesthouse and head down the old paved trail that leads to the small seaside village of Damouchari following in the footsteps of the villagers of Tsangarada who took this route in olden times to bring their goods down to the area's only natural port. The route followed crosses through forest and over small bridges, and passes by natural springs. In the last section of the trail, as we nears Damouchari, trekkers can enjoy the view from the Kangioli area to the tip of Northern Mt. Pelion and Halkidiki.
Time: 85 minutes downhill. 90 minutes uphill.
Degree of difficulty: Average
Tsangarada to Karavostasia: : Orchards & Wild Sea Day Out .
Trekkers will discover this trail now covered in vegetation which leads down to the rocky Karavostasia coastline. The trail passes through olive groves and citrus fruit orchards and trekkers will discover a tiny chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary built inside a cave. On the beach next to it, trekkers will climb up on the Thronos rock, a towering rock edifice in the shape of a throne, to look out over the northern Sporades islands before heading back though a forest of lemon trees.
Time: 45 minutes downhill. 50 minutes uphill.
Degree of difficulty: average. The path is crossed at various locations by a recently built road.
Mylopotamos to Limnionas : Combining 2 amazing beaches
Trekkers will start of from Mylopotamos, the most famous beach near Tsangarada. The destination though is Limnionas, a less well known but equally beautiful beach. Along the way trekkers will encounter wooden bridges, chapels and springs. The path followed crosses rocky coastline, orchards and olive groves with old stone huts, and terminates at Limnionas Beach, cut in two by a large fallen rock.
Time: 60 minute there and 60 minutes back.
Degree of difficulty: easy
Agia Paraskevi to Taxiarches: Joining the 2 main neighbourhoods of Tsangarada
Trekkers start out from the Guesthouse and climb up to Agia Paraskevi Square with its thousand year old plane tree. The trail passes by the stone school buildings, before re-entering the chestnut tree forest. Following the old path there, the trail crosses through the Taxiarches neighbourhood with its old houses with carved stone doorways, fountains where cold mountain water flows, and ends up in the square with Agii Taxiarches church. On the way back trekkers can change route as they pass the church again, making their final destination the Sourvia look-out point, a location which affords commanding views over the Mylopotamos river gorge.
Time: Simple trail: 100 minutes in total. Extra trail: an additional 60 minutes.
Degree of difficulty: easy
From Fakistra to Agios Athanasios: Unknown beaches
Trekkers set out from Fakistra, the small charming beach with a waterfall and then continue on in parallel with the seafront along a dirt path that wends its way between the olive trees. Immediately afterwards trekkers will descend into the Panagia Megalomata cave which once housed a "hidden school" during the Turkish occupation. As the trail continues, it passes by the half-ruined chapel of Agios Nikolaos and then down through an olive grove to a rocky beach. There, just in front of the chapel of Agios Athanasios a few meters from the sea, a spring of cold fresh waters bubbles up from the ground.
Time: 60 minute there and 60 minutes back.
Degree of difficulty: average
To Agios Athanasios en Atho: A walk through the forests above Tsangarada
Trekkers start off from Agia Paraskevi Square and head upwards along the main road. The trail continues ever upward along a rural road, passing through orchards and groves of apples trees, wild and domesticated chestnut trees and then follows the old stone path into a beech forest. Trekkers are given the chance to rest at a specially landscaped area with a fountain in front of the chapel of Agios Athanasios the Athonite. The way down follows a different path, taking trekkers on a trail through the forest to the Taxiarches neighbourhood.
Time: 100 minute there and 100 minutes back
Degree of difficulty: Average
Palio Gefyri to Xourichti: The old road to Milies
Trekkers set off from the main entrance to Tsangarada and head down to the old stone bridge which crosses the Mylopotamos river. Afterwards the trail climbs up towards Xourichti following the old paved path which led to Milies. The trail goes as far as the stone fountain and large water tank and trekkers will have a chance to rest at the chapel of Agios Konstantinos and Agia Eleni.
Time: 40 minute there and 40 minutes back.
